Council rejects plans for 500,000-bird poultry farm

Plans to build a 500,000-bird poultry farm in Lincolnshire have been rejected amid concerns about the size and visual impact of the project.

German firm FKB had submitted an application to erect 16 poultry houses on land between the A15 and A17 between Sleaford and Leasingham.

Officers had approved the project, but it was rejected by councillors sitting on North Kevestan District Council’s planning committee in a vote on Tuesday (5 August).

More than 600 objections were raised about the proposed scheme, chiefly from residents concerned about the smell and increased traffic in the area.

The poultry farm would have created eight new jobs and increased production at Moy Park in Alnwick to 2 million birds a week.

FKB had argued that new technology would mitigate odour emissions.

Plans to build an anaerobic digestion facility on the same site have been deferred.

It is understood that FKB will appeal the decision.
