Charity releases small-scale poultry slaughter guide
The Humane Slaughter Association (HSA) has published an online guide to the slaughter of poultry, available for free on its website.
“Practical Slaughter of Poultry” is an online resource designed primarily for smallholders and small-scale producers. The HSA called it a “comprehensive introduction to humane slaughter”.
On 1 January this year, European legislation introduced new rules surrounding animal slaughter on farm, both when killing sick or injured birds, or when slaughtering for consumption. The guide is compliant with these changes, said an HSA spokesman.
“It is an update of an older booklet, but we wanted to make it available online,” he added. “This is the first document that we’ve put on the web, but we are working on uploading more.”
It features pictures, diagrams and video guidance, and can be accessed by visiting HSA’s website.
