Copas and Waddling Free duck named three-star foods

Marlow-based Copas Traditional Turkeys and The Traditional Free Range Egg Company won top accolades at this year’s Great Taste Awards.

Both picked up a three-star rating – the highest available.

Great Taste is administered by the Guild of Fine Foods, and sees some 10,000 products blind-tasted by around 500 food critics, writers, chefs, restaurateurs and producers.

Of those 10,000 products, just 141 received a three-star rating.

Copas said it felt the accolade would help drive sales and add credibility to the brand.

Duck egg winners

The Traditional Free Range Egg Company, formerly Blackacre Farm Eggs, was a second business awarded a three-star rating for its Waddling Free duck eggs range.

Dan Wood, managing director at the firm, said: “You only have to look at the dominance of lovingly produced meat, eggs and dairy in this year’s Great Taste Top 50 Foods to see how much the work of our traditional farmers is valued.

“This will spur us on as we continue in our efforts to educate consumers on the difference between eggs produced using traditional methods and those coming from more industrialised systems, giving people the chance to support independent family-run farms before they are lost forever.”
