Egg sector CSR projects worth £4.4m

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes at egg businesses are contributing $7m of funding to community and environmental projects around the world.

A study by the International Egg Commission shows that members’ CSR activities include: setting up schools in Mozambique and Zimbabwe; a remarkable environmental building in Rotterdam in The Netherlands; a forest improvement project in Japan; and the Hawke’s Bay Community Trust in New Zealand, which promotes biodynamic and organic production.

In addition, during the past 12 months, more than 22m eggs have been donated to food banks, charities and schools.

The EIC puts the total value of these projects and donations at $7m (£4.4m), with more than 108 charitable causes in 48 countries benefiting.

“At the IEC we are fully committed to our industry’s corporate and social responsibilities,” said chairwoman, Joanne Ivy. “We feel very privileged to be producing a product that can benefit so many people throughout the world.”
