Grants for new poultry producers in Scotland

Would-be egg and poultry meat producers in Scotland are being offered generous starter grants as part of a £1.6b Scotland Rural Development Programme.

The funds from the Scottish government and the European Union include starter grants of up to 60%.

Aid is available to new poultry producers under the age of 40, providing they have not been at the head of their business for more than 12 months.

The programme aims, by economic, environmental and social measures, to develop rural Scotland over the next seven years and deliver the funding by eight mechanisms.

The grants will be handled by a rural priorities option which, according to the Scottish office “aims to help young farmers, who are starting a business for the first time, to develop the business in the critical early stages. It provides interest rate relief of up to £27,397 on a commercial business development.”
