Somerset egg farm digs deep for charity
A Somerset egg farm has proved every little bit counts after it raised £5000 for charity by collecting a 2p donation from every container of eggs sold by retailers.
Blackacre Farm Eggs of North Cheriton raised the money after only three months and has today handed the money over to local charity Have a Heart which will distribute the money to community organisations.
“As a local family business we wanted to give something back to the area that has helped us grow. We are now at the stage where we can see the money raised going into action.” Dan Wood, production director at Blackacre, said.
The money will go to Highbridge Community Youth Club, Somerset Trust for Arts and Recreation, Somerset Youth and Community Sailing Association, Positive Action on Cancer.
Caroline Langmaid, regional fundraising manager from Have a Heart, said the donation was much appreciated.
“Without the support of companies like Blackacre and the individuals that supported them by buying the eggs, we couldn’t provide much needed funds for these four worthy charities,” Ms Langmaid said.
