Top poultry farmers sought for FW awards
There can be few better ways to boost your profile in the poultry industry than taking part in, and maybe winning, the 2013 Farmers Weekly Poultry Farmer of the Year.
If your business is thriving or finding success in an unusual way, then the time to enter is now.
Winning the award not only highlights a business as a leader in its field, but also brings recognition to a hard-working team and respect from customers – the good PR is invaluable.
The winning farmer will be one able to demonstrate excellence in production, marketing and welfare, as well as able to show environmental and social responsibility.
Mark Gorton, who won 2012 Poultry Farmer of the Year, said the impact had been “fantastic”. “Our customers are proud to be associated with us and we have seen an increase in the number of sales enquiries we get,” he said. “Most importantly our staff feel proud to work for us.”
Mr Gorton added that the accolade had boosted his business’ profile and increased the number of farmers who wanted to grow poultry for it.
Jason Gittins, a consultant from ADAS, will be one of the judges this year. He said the winner should be seen as an example for others to follow and a positive role model for the industry. “The winner this year is likely to be someone who has developed a successful and sustainable business and who has plans in place to ensure future profitability.”
As well as the kudos associated with the awards, finalists will also get to attend the awards night in London on 3 October, “the best night in the farming calendar”.
HOW TO ENTER
You can either nominate someone you respect in the poultry sector or enter your own business by visiting awards.fwi.co.uk. Once on the site, you can either complete an online application or download a form and post it to us. The deadline for entries is 30 April.

Following the deadline, a shortlist of three entrants will be selected. These will be visited by a panel of judges and featured in Poultry World.
