VIDEO: US egg supplier accused of animal cruelty

An animal rights group has accused US egg supplier Kreider Farms of animal cruelty, following an undercover investigation at one of their farms.
The Humane Society of the United States said video footage, which was allegedly filmed over a six-week period in February and March at Kreiderās Manheim facility in Pennsylvania, revealed āextreme animal abuse.ā
The video appears to show birds which are severely over-crowded in cages, as well as injured and dead lying dead among live chickens.
An HSUS investigator said birds had also been left without water for days when a water source malfunctioned and as a result many died from dehydration.
But Kreider farms has strongly denied the allegations and said the video is a gross distortion of reality.
Meanwhile HSUS has highlighted the need for federal legislation to improve conditions of laying hens in the US.
āThis new exposĆ© underscores just how important federal legislation to protect laying hens is,ā stated Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States.
āRather than defending an inhumane and archaic status quo, Kreider Farms should join the rest of the egg industry in support of common sense federal rules for the treatment of laying hens.ā
