Renting land? It must be near
PRODUCERS CONSIDERING renting land as a winter grazing block should consider its proximity to the farm, warned grazing consultant Bryony Fitzgerald.
“It’s not practical when it takes two hours to drive there to shift a wire every day. Consider also the cost of haulage for cows, rental and input costs, as well as infrastructure and what supplements may be required,” she said.
She said the simplicity of 365-day grazing was deceptive, as it required careful planning, constant measurement and high levels of motivation.
