Neogen develops and markets products dedicated to food and animal safety. Neogen’s Animal Safety Division is a leader in the development of animal genomics, along with the manufacturing and distribution of a variety of animal healthcare products, including diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, veterinary instruments, wound care, hygiene products and aquaculture.
Introducing Neogen® Farm Fluid MAX, an advanced dual-action disinfectant developed for challenging farm environments and integral to the Neogen Pathogen Control Programme.
It stands out for its remarkable efficacy in coccidiosis control.
Coccidiosis remains to be a continuous challenge for farms, necessitating strict adherence to biosecurity and disinfection protocols.
This disease, affecting various animal species, imposes a significant burden on the poultry industry.
Neogen Farm Fluid MAX is designed to be a key part of coccidiosis management protocols.
Effectiveness of Neogen Farm Fluid MAX
Neogen Farm Fluid MAX effectively disrupts the protozoa life cycle by destroying oocysts, including up to 100% of both sporulated and non-sporulated forms.
At a 2% dilution, it has been demonstrated to overcome multiple field strains of Eimeria oocysts, such as E. tenella, E. maxima, and E. acervulina.
“Neogen Farm Fluid MAX is a robust and potent solution formulated with chlorocresol (CMK), an additional biocide, and supportive ingredients like a solvent for enhanced solubility and a surfactant, making it ideal for difficult farm environments,” explains Dr Barriere, formulation chemist at Neogen.
Understanding coccidiosis
Coccidiosis results from an invasion by protozoan parasites that inhabit the gut lining, impairing nutrient absorption.
Affected birds experience reduced feed and water intake, enteritis, diarrhoea, and increased mortality rates.
These symptoms not only jeopardise the flock’s health and economic viability but also decrease egg production in laying hens.
Versatile applications of Neogen Farm Fluid MAX
For optimal results, Neogen Farm Fluid MAX should be applied to pre-cleaned, dry surfaces, always adhering to the label instructions.
It performs best as part of the Neogen Pathogen Control Programme, which targets viruses, mycoplasma, bacteria, and protozoa in livestock production.
Typically, it is recommended as the third step, following surface cleaning with Farm-Foam EVO and an initial application of Neogen Viroxide Super™ disinfectant.
Do not apply following a previous application of a chemistry with a quaternary ammonium compound as the cationic surfactant could interrupt the efficacy of the chlorocresol formulation.
General surface disinfection: Dilute at 1:200 and apply at 300 ml per square metre as a wet spray.
Wheel and boot dips: Dilute at 1:100, with replacement twice a week or when visibly soiled, as it resists degradation by direct sunlight.
Targeted area application for coccidiosis control: On housing floors and lower walls, dilute at 1:50 and apply at 300 ml per square metre.
Removable equipment: Immerse in a 1:200 solution for up to 30 minutes, then rinse with clean water and dry before reuse.
Neogen Pathogen Control Programme
Biosecurity provides more opportunities for improved return on investment with healthier, more productive animals.
Therefore, creating a strong biosecurity programme not only reduces disease risk to your flock or herd and prevents transmission of harmful pathogens but also enables you to protect your income.
Since every farm is different, a unique approach to hygiene and biosecurity management makes the most sense.
To meet these needs, various elements must be considered, including pathogen diversity, fluctuating temperatures, pH levels, diverse surfaces, equipment, and the hygiene team available for the job.
Choosing the correct cleaners and disinfectants adapted to each specific situation can lead to more effective disease prevention and a more productive and profitable enterprise.
Given the unique nature of each farm and the varying efficacy of disinfectants across different surfaces and temperatures, a range of chemistries is necessary.
Neogen’s range complements Neogen Farm Fluid MAX, including Viruquat 300, a blend of glutaraldehyde and quaternary ammonium compound, and Neogen Viroxide Super, a broad-spectrum powder disinfectant.
These are supported by formulated detergents such as Farm-Foam EVO, Super-Foam EVO, and Foam Acid to provide a comprehensive hygiene programme.
Neogen® can handle the complexities of farm disinfection with a personalised pathogen control programme, designed to meet your individual farm needs.
