Vaccine voucher scheme sees rapid uptake

The BPEX PCV2 vaccine voucher scheme has taken off, with more than 391 units taking part and more than 250,000 sows being covered in just two months.

The project launched to tackle a major health problem is only expected to last eight to nine months, as the rapid uptake means the subsidised vaccine is fast running out.

PMWS and PDNS continue to be major problems for the industry, says BPEX’s Mark Wilson. “The new PCV2 vaccine is proving extremely effective delivering great improvements in physical performance.

“Though the 1.5million budget is going fast, there is still time for producers to take part in the project. The aim of the project is to build a more sustainable and competitive industry for the future.”

In return for providing vouchers, producers are submitting summary details of herd performance.
