Pickup buyer’s guide 2025-26

Additional hybrid and electric options feature in this year’s pickup listings – with more on the way.

Isuzu recently unveiled a fully electric model for its D-Max line-up, which is due to arrive early next year.

Ford is effectively replacing its 2-litre diesel Rangers with new plug-in hybrid versions combining a 2.3-litre petrol engine and a battery.

Early reports regarding the hybrid Ranger’s on-and off-road performance are favourable, although there is clearly demand for the cost-effective outgoing 2-litre oil burners as the remaining UK allocation is already sold out.

Manufacturing and supplies of 3-litre Ranger diesels will continue.

Saic Maxus has added a fresh, fully electric, full-size truck to its offering, and for those preferring traditional diesel power, there is also a new 213hp diesel model with just over 1t carrying capacity.

Specialist constructors are offering more electric options too, including Yorkshire-based Foers Ibex, and Suzuki conversion specialist Samson Engineering – both of which have announced additional models.

Ongoing product development means there are three new models from Yorkshire-based Foers Engineering this year.

The Ibex was originally designed to satisfy the demanding needs of hill farmers more than 30 years ago.

It now has a semi-spaceframe chassis and is said to combine the comfort of conventional 4×4 utility vehicles with the agility of an ATV.

Most machines meet bespoke requirements, from basic pickups and load carriers to six-wheel-drive configurations for firefighting and other tasks.

Standard diesel models are mainly 111hp, and petrol models offer up to 430hp; buyers have a choice of V8 petrol or four-, five- or six-cylinder diesel power units.

New additions featuring in this year’s guide include the F8 360 – a longer wheelbase (3,675mm) pickup available with either diesel or petrol power units.

The company also releases its first fully electric vehicle, the F8 300 Pick Up EV.

It has a 3,165mm wheelbase and a 170kW motor – equivalent to 227hp.

Ford

Big changes to the popular Ford Ranger line-up include the arrival of new plug-in hybrid (Phev) models.

Alongside this is the deletion of all current 2-litre diesel variants including the XL Chassis Cab from early next year; 3-litre models remain unchanged.

The Phevs all use the same 2.3-litre petrol engine.

Operator-selectable drive modes include petrol engine only, petrol engine with electric motor providing up to 281hp and 697Nm of torque, or electric only for up to 26 miles from a full battery charge.

GWM

Due to enter the UK market this September, Chinese-built GWM Poer300 double-cab pickups come in three variants differing only in the level of equipment included.

The drivetrain comprises a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 183hp and 480Nm of torque, running through a nine-speed automatic transmission with high and low ranges.

Permanent four-wheel drive and an electronic locking rear differential are standard, while carrying capacity is 1t and the towing limit set at 3.5t.

The base LUX spec includes LED headlamps, a 12.3in touchscreen, wireless phone charging, rear parking sensors and parking assistance.

Going to the mid-range Ultra gains a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front leather seats, six-way driver’s electric seat adjustment, a sunroof, a 360deg surround view camera, and easier load bed access using a fold-out step within the rear tailgate.

The flagship Vanta version has similar equipment plus side steps, a sports bar and additional styling features.

Isuzu

Isuzu D-Max pickups received significant upgrades for 2025, including “rough terrain” mode which is an extension of the proven traction control system.

Selecting the new mode means the vehicle automatically manages the engine throttle response, power delivery and transmission, as well as the anti-lock brakes to maximise traction and make the most of any grip.

All 2025 models have revised styling and the interior includes an 8in touchscreen as standard, except in the V-Cross flagship which has a 9in version.

Previous models came with a raft of driver aids and safety features, which now extend to driver attention monitoring.

Towards the top of the line-up, a limited edition Steel model has been introduced, bringing with it a few extra style and comfort features.

Isuzu also recently announced the addition of an electric pickup due to arrive in the UK in early 2026.

The D-Max EV features a re-engineered fully electric drivetrain with full-time four-wheel drive.

Powered by a 66.9kWh lithium-ion battery and with dual motors producing 140kW and 325Nm of torque, it can achieve 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds, with a top speed over 80mph.

Quoted WLTP range is 164 miles, and the company claims the new D-Max EV is the first fully electric 4×4 pickup with commercial capability, including a 1t payload and 3.5t towing capacity.

Saic Maxus

Recent additions to the Chinese-owned and manufactured Maxus line-up include the T60 Max four-wheel drive diesel pickup and the eTerron9 four-wheel battery version.

The T60 Max features a 2-litre, 213hp diesel engine developing up to 500Nm of torque.

It has double wishbone suspension front and rear, load capacity is 1,050kg and the maximum towing weight is 3,500kg.

Meanwhile, the battery-powered eTerron9 gets dual motors providing 325kW and a battery capacity of 103kWh, giving a quoted 267-mile range.

The 2,880kg unladen weight leaves 620kg of load capacity, and the rear cab wall folds to accommodate items up to 2.4m in length.

There are two variants: Luxury and Premium. The latter gains cab comfort and trim upgrades, and independent air suspension as standard.

Saic Maxus provides a five-year (100,000-mile) vehicle warranty and an eight-year (200,000-mile) battery warranty.

Mitsubishi

Imported from Japan by Advantage4Vans, Mitsubishi Minicabs arrive in new condition, but pre-registered and with Bimta-certified delivery mileage.

The range of accessories and options includes special fitment tyres and wheels, load covers and extra bodywork protection.

Ram 1500

Ram Rebel

Two new additions extend the UK line-up of RAM 1500 pickups to six models.

The entry-level Tradesman Night features a straight-six, 3-litre petrol engine developing 420hp and 636Nm of torque.

Equipment includes black painted 18in alloy wheels, cloth seats, manual air conditioning, LED headlights and daytime running lamps.

The Rebel is also new, slotting in just above the Tradesman.

Permanent four-wheel drive transmission is the main difference.

It also comes with remote keyless entry and remote start, front and rear parking assist, a digital rear view mirror, dual-zone climate control.

It also features driver and passenger eight-way electric, heated and ventilated seats and a heated rear seat, plus additional styling details.

KGM Musso

The Rebel Manual, with six-speed manual transmission, has replaced the previous EVX manual model at the foot of the Musso four-model range.

The existing Rebel, with a six-speed auto transmission, remains in the line-up and a price gap of £1,000 plus VAT separates the two.

Higher specification Saracen and Saracen+ with a longer cargo box complete the KGM offering.

Samson Engineering

Yorkshire-based Samson Engineering has realigned its range of Suzuki-based pickup conversions.

Although bespoke builds are common, the base line-up includes three versions, starting with the JMV225 Bergan.

It is described as a more road-orientated and competitively priced version, but which still offers superior off-road performance compared to a standard Jimny.

The JMV225 FieldStar is for heavy-duty applications and the JMV275 Commercial is a heavy-duty, on- and off-road workhorse with an extended load area.

Like other manufacturers, Samson is experiencing increased interest in electric models and has recently developed an EV drive and battery solution.

Orders are already being taken for the new battery models, which will be available alongside traditional petrol and diesel variants from early 2026.
