Agco buys half of Laverda

Agco has bought a 50% share of Laverda from the Italian harvester and baler specialist’s parent company Argo.

The deal, which is still subject to approval from European competition authorities, follows an agreement set up in 2004 which

saw Laverda supplying Agco with combine harvesters.

Mid-range combines
“Our success in selling Massey Ferguson, Fendt and Challenger combines manufactured at Laverda’s plant in Breganze over the

past few years has given us the confidence to establish a broader agreement”, explains Gary Collar, Agco’s senior vice-president and general manager for Europe, Africa and Middle East.

In the UK, Breganze-built machines make up the lion’s share of Massey Ferguson’s harvester range – mid-range Activa and Beta combines are sourced from Italy.

This new arrangement also extends to balers and grass kit. Agco now holds control of half of Laverda subsidiary Fella-Werke, a German manufacturer of grass and hay machinery and a 50 % stake in Italian firm Gallignani, which already supplies Massey Ferguson with round-balers.

*Argo is the Italian parent company of McCormick, Landini and Laverda (which also owns Fella and Gallignani)
*Agco brands include Massey Ferguson, Valtra, Fendt and Challenger as well as Hesston, Terra-Gator and AgChem
