Avid launches 40mph electric buggy

Northumberland company Avid Vehicles has unveiled an electrically-powered farm buggy with a maximum speed of 40mph and a range of 40 miles.
Avid is the second buggy maker to offer an electric option, following Polaris’s launch of the Ranger EV last December.
Avid is a relatively new player that is concentrating on electric vehicles. It also has an electric urban runabout coming out soon.
The 4wd E-Warrior has two 72v AC electric motors, one in the front axle and the other in the rear. There is no transmission in the conventional sense – the harder you push the pedal the faster it goes.
Six 12v lead-acid batteries under the seat provide the power for the motors. They can be recharged in 3-4 hours, says the company, with the cost of the elctricity coming to ÂŁ1.50 a charge. There will also be a wind turbine option, with a 1kW 4.5m turbine charging up the batteries for free.
The company says that performance is similar to that of a petrol or diesel-powered machine, if not better. Carrying capacity is 280kg and it can tow 500kg.
Cost of the E-Warrior is ÂŁ9750, but the price for the wind turbine charger hasn’t been finalised yet.
