Can-Am Traxter UTV gets new engine and uprated chassis

Fizzier performance from an all-new Rotax engine is promised for the latest Can-Am Traxter UTV, complemented by suspension and chassis upgrades, and a tad more comfort in the cab.

The Traxter HD11 in both three- and six-seat guises packs a 999cc Rotax Ace three-cylinder petrol engine delivering peak output of 95hp – up 13hp or 16% on the current HD10.

A new air intake system is designed to help the engine breathe freely, while updated cooling manages engine temperature in a manner said to enhance heating and ventilation.

The engine is paired with an equally new continuously variable transmission said to achieve improved low-speed power delivery over its predecessor.

Moreover, the powertrain now features three selectable drive modes – normal, work and sport – to suit the driver’s preference and the work being undertaken, with a view to balancing fuel economy and required power and torque or throttle response.

A larger fuel tank, now holding 45 litres, extends working periods between refills.

Toughened up

More robust suspension and steering components, and a toughened chassis and roll-over protection frame, should help the latest Traxter survive brutal terrain and driving styles

Double-bonded bushings in the suspension are claimed to be an industry first, reducing maintenance.

Durability apart, the changes are also reckoned to result in sharper, more stable handling from a suspension set up that allows 305mm of vertical wheel movement front and rear, 356mm of ground clearance, and a tighter steering angle.

Electronic power steering and anti-lock braking control for the calipers gripping larger 262mm diameter discs are also part of the latest Traxter package, along with bright LED driving and reversing lamps.

When it comes to the 200 accessories available, the new charging system for battery power tools has twice the output of its predecessor.
