Sleaford, Lincolnshire firm Bailey Trailers is to fit all its grain and root models over 12t with commercial axles that provide the 50% braking efficiency proposed by the EU. Smaller models can be fitted with the same axles as an optional extra.
“With faster tractors and more road haulage, demand for high performance axles has steadily increased to a point where it is now viable for us to fit them as standard on our top-selling trailers” explains Michael Bailey.
EU proposals state that only trailers with the 50% braking efficiency should be allowed on the road but some farmers have been reluctant to spend around £900 to upgrade from their agricultural axles which typically provide 25% efficiency.
Air brakes can also be retro-fitted to its trailers at a later date, he adds.
