Biomax processes waste in 24 hours
It might sound like something from a science fiction film, but Biomax’s Rapid Thermophilic Digester claims to be able to process organic waste in less than 24 hours.
Muck, mortalities and farm waste can all be turned into farm- or garden-ready fertiliser in the space of a day, says the Singaporean company. It believes the fertiliser produced from the system could reduce chemical fertiliser requirements considerably. The fertiliser has high organic matter which can be used to rejuvenate poor soils.
It’s basically a fast-tracked aerobic fermentation process. The chamber is kept at 80C – the temperature at which wastes are digested and pathogens killed. And because the process takes place in a chamber, smells and pollution can be dealt with before they start upsetting the neighbours.
There are various unit sizes available. The most farm-sized digester is the 22,000-litre unit which can handle up to 15t of waste a day. The Biomax digester takes up about 100sq m for a 15t-a-day processing unit.
Biomax technology has been used in more than 13 countries around the world including Australia, USA and Middle East.
