Howard muckspreader transformed into bespoke glamping pod

Yorkshire joiner Steven Nolan has transformed an old Howard muckspreader into a high-spec glamping pod, adding a trove of luxuries to one of agriculture’s crudest machines.
His four-year, £10,000 project involved butchering one side to accommodate double-glazed windows in solid oak frames and forming a canopy from salvaged aluminium scaffolding tube to carry a front awning and hammock.

Creature comforts start with a wood burner that doubles up as a water heater for the swing-down outside shower, which is covertly stored underneath the rear flashing beacon.
And inside the spreader’s 5.5cu m steel body there’s a concealed kitchenette complete with miniature sink and single-burner gas hob, a television, and a sound system comprising more than a dozen speakers rigged up with a 400W amplifier.
Bench seats can be used for dining from a fold-down table, and sleeping once the central joining sections have been raised via switches to form a full-width bed.
Other highlights include a three-camera CCTV system, multiple USB charging ports, and 192 starry night fibre optic lights dotted across the hardwood ceiling.
The pod, which is towed by a restored International 454, featured on Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces earlier this year.
Following the success of the build, Steven now hopes to establish a business converting other agricultural equipment.
Next on the agenda is a grain trailer renovation, the progress of which you can follow on his YouTube channel.
