Fendt tractor aims for 839 miles on one tank of biodiesel

Charity tractor runs are not that unusual but here’s one with a difference. Ilkeston, Derbyshire Fendt dealer G&R Pykett is planning to drive a 360hp Fendt 936 from Lands End to John O’ Groats in one day and on a single tank of 100% biodiesel on July 6.
The aim is to illustrate how fuel-efficient a big tractor can be as well as raise money for the Derbyshire Hospitals Charitable Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital. The run will start at 8pm and three drivers will do an eight-hour shift each.
While the organisers are pretty confident that the Fendt’s 660-litre tank will allow the 839-mile trip to be done without a refuel, they are having to take account of the poorer fuel consumption of biodiesel compared to mineral diesel. The other factor that could upset the equation is a big traffic jam along the way.
We’ll let you know how they get on – see www.fwi.co.uk from July 9 onwards. If you want to donate or be a sponsor, ring 0115-932 2438 or go to the G&R Pykett website
