Perkins to make 1100 series diesel engines in China

Perkins Engines has announced plans to build its 1100 series range of diesel engines at Wuxi in the Jiangsu province of China from the end of 2009. Initial volumes are expected to be around 60,000 units a year. These engines are expected to be used by Chinese vehicle makers both for sale in the home market and for export.

The 1100 series consists of 3.3, 4 and 6.6 litre engines ranging in power from 50hp to 275hp. Though a common design, they can be produced in ultra-low-emissions form for countries with tough standards and in slightly higher emission form for countries with less demanding standards.
