Protect farm water supplies with pipe heaters

Worried about frozen pipes this winter? Sussex-based firm MJA HeatTrace Products is selling electrically heated jackets for water and diesel pipes.

A thermostat with digital readout sets the pipe heaters to typically come on when temperatures drop to 3C and turn off again when temperatures rise to 5C. However the on and off temperatures can be set by the user.

Energy consumption is 10W/m and the maximum length of any one pipe heater is 100m if fitted with the simple digistat and 150m if the more sophisticated Digitemp controller is specified.

A kit with one 12m heating cable with a standard three-pin plug at the end, plus a thermostat costs ÂŁ146 inc VAT. Extra cable costs ÂŁ4/m.
