SIMA 2009: Grimme’s trailed Rootster 604

Huge self-propelled sugar beet harvesters may still draw the crowds, but the reduced profitability of the crops across Europe means that machines like Grimme’s new trailed Rootster 604 are enjoying success.
They can also be driven by regular farm staff rather than needing to have an ultra-skilled driver at the wheel. The Rootster system consists of a defoliator fitted to the front of the tractor and then a six-row harvester with choice of cleaning system.
There’s a choice of hydraulic or non-hydraulic oppel wheels and electronics are kept to a minimum. Cost is about €80,000 for the harvester and 20,000 euros for the defoliator. The unit is said to be ideal for farmers with 60-80ha of the crop.
