Subaru launches diesel Legacy
Subaru fans will be glad to hear that the Japanese firm has developed a diesel version of its trademark ‘Boxer’ engine.
Initially destined for 4×4 Legacy estate cars, the horizontally-opposed four cylinder power-plant is claimed to beat its nearest rivals – the Ford Mondeo and VW Passat – on fuel consumption.
With 50mm (2in) of extra ground clearance and a limited slip diff, the farm-friendly ‘Outback’ version costs £23,495 and will be available from February.
Oil-burning Impreza and Forester models will go on sale later in the year.
