New Holland unveils Forage Power version of W170D+ loader

New Holland has bolstered its range of loading shovels with two new Italian-built models – one of which it hopes will challenge JCB’s popular 435S.
The Forage Power derivative of the firm’s W170D+ should be better suited to climbing silage clamps, with engineers having turned up the dial on the 6.7-litre NEF engine such that it now delivers 255hp and 1,300Nm.

Those figures represent respective 30% and 37% rises on the standard spec version – which is more geared for construction and quarry work – and in the same ballpark at the 435’s 282hp/1,200Nm.
Similarly, there’s an extra cog in the now six-speed transmission, with torque convertor lock-up available from first gear, having previously only been available from second.
Other changes include an increase in diesel capacity, from 250 to 350 litres, and the option of a joystick steering system – much like JCB’s “lever steer”.
Also featuring in the more generous Forage Power spec is a reversing fan, 180deg rear-view camera and an LED lighting package.
The machine rolls on Michelin 750/65 R26s as standard and weighs 16.4t, making it appreciably smaller and more manoeuvrable than the flagship W190D.
Meanwhile, there’s a new W100D propping up the W-D range. This 9t iteration is powered by a 112hp, 3.6-litre FPT engine running through a two-range, 40kph hydrostatic transmission, and it features a new cab complete with 7in display.
