Tractor sales down 17%

The Agricultural Engineers Association has released its latest tractor sales figures, which continue to fall as commodity prices flounder across the board.
The 766 units sold in September continued the downward trend in sales, equating to a 29.2% drop on the same period last year. It has been a year to forget for tractor manufacturers, which have seen total sales 17.5% down on 2014 at 8,703 units.

The total tractor power sold in the first nine months of 2015 was 1.378m horsepower – a decrease of 17% on the previous year. However, the average size of each of those tractors continued to rise, this time by 0.7% to 158.4hp.
The decrease in sales can be seen across the UK, but it is Northern Ireland and the East Midlands that have been hit the hardest. Sales in both areas have dropped by 30%, compared with less than 10% in the South East, North East, Home Counties and Scotland.
Every horsepower range above 50hp registered a decrease when compared with the same period last year, with most dropping by over 15% and the 161-200hp bracket tumbling by over 20%.
