Goodyear has gained European accreditation for its widest-ever agricultural tyre.

The monster LSW 1400/30 R46 is designed for suitably sized combines and articulated prairie prowlers such as Case IH’s Steiger and the John Deere 9000-series.

At 1.4m wall to wall, the firm’s flagship radial certainly won’t make for easy inter-field travel.

But it’s apparently unrivalled where flotation is concerned, spreading the load over sodden soil far better than a dual-wheel setup and without the between-tyre rutting they can cause.

The design features the larger-than-normal rim diameter typical of parent company Titan’s “low sidewall” (LSW) setup.

This format has apparently proved popular across other tyre sizes, largely because it allows for 40% lower inflation pressure than a standard fitment to minimise soil compaction.

Strung across the lateral surface are Titan’s deep Custom Flo Grip treads with 45deg lugs.

As well as providing decent in-field traction, their shape is said to minimise power hop and improve stability on the road.

The tyres weigh 845kg and are rated for a maximum load of 14.5t at 40kph.
