Mitas creates Granterra tyre for low-speed, high-torque needs
© Mitas A heavy-duty tyre developed by Mitas is designed for larger tractors, from around the 200hp mark upwards, undertaking heavy cultivation.
The Granterra meets the criteria for the industry’s VF category.
This means it has a tough carcass with a very flexible sidewall, enabling it to operate at low inflation pressures for a big footprint while carrying a load for which “lesser” tyres need a greater volume of air.

A scan of the new tyre’s load:speed index shows it can carry an equivalent load at a 40% lower inflation pressure than a standard tyre of the same size, or 40% greater load at an equal pressure.
In addition, the Granterra has PFO (pressure field operation) labelling on its sidewall, which indicates that it can run at extra-low pressures for a given load within a 5-15kph working speed band.
The Granterra 710/75 R42 was first out of the Mitas moulds, but the full line-up is set to include 900/60 R42, 710/70 R42 and 650/65 R42 rear sizes, paired with 710/55 R34, 650/65 R34, 650/60 R34, 600/70 R30 and 540/65 R30 for the front axle.
All are rated to 70kph subject to load restrictions and feature deep lugs laid out in a new tread pattern for Mitas.
This has a raised area immediately in front of each lug intended to resist stubble damage and prevent premature deterioration of the tyre to maintain its performance over time, even in the most challenging environments.
