Richard Western silage trailers get load containment flaps

Speedy hauls from field to silage clamp will often result in a trail of light, fluffy, finely chopped forage lining country lanes after a busy harvesting campaign.

But Richard Western trailer users can now aim to minimise lost material by installing a new “twin flip” load containment system.

This comprises two frames – one for each side of the trailer – supporting strong polypropylene sheeting held securely but loose enough for the main sheets to wrap themselves over piled crop.

At the rear of each frame, a separate sheet section can tuck itself between the tailgate and the sloping pile to prevent as much forage as possible from being sucked out of the trailer and cast to the wind.

Each side frame can pivot on four pins built into framework bolted to the top edges of the silage extension panels.

And the swinging arms that move the sheets between their open and closed positions house a hydraulic cylinder fed by a double-acting oil supply.

Richard Western’s Suffolk silage trailer range encompasses 11t to 24t load capacities with standard or “high speed” running gear.

All have a tapered monocoque body constructed from 4mm sheet for the floor and 3mm for the sides – or 6mm and 4mm, respectively – with 50deg of tipping angle and a rubber-sealed hydraulic tailgate.
