12 new Asda stores to open
WAL-MART, US owner of Asda, plans to open around 12 new stores in the UK over the next year, reports The Guardian.
Sites could include Cornwall, Hull, Dunstable, Cambridge, London and Manchester, with further stores in Scotland.
Asda has 240 UK stores.
Meanwhile, Sainsbury is switching to wind power at its East Kilbride distribution centre in Scotland, reports the same newspaper.
The company says the move makes good environmental sense and will be exempt from payments under the climate change levy.
