129th winter fayre bigger than ever
129th winter fayre bigger than ever
WITH no Royal Smithfield Show this year, organisers of the South Eastern Primestock Winter Fayre are expecting a bumper turnout.
Announcing changes to the event, the organisers predicted last week that entries could double at the fayre, which is planned for Wed, Nov 26 at the South of England Showground, Sussex.
Previously known as the South Eastern Fatstock Show, this marks the events 129th year.
Last winter the supreme title was taken by a Blonde dAquitaine cross Aberdeen Angus steer from David Vick, Steyning. Weighing 450kg, it made £1080.
A regular at the event, Mr Vick has taken the top spot twice before – although the previous time was nearly 30 years ago.
The days auction will also be bigger than ever before, predicts committee secretary Sally Trump. "Farmers wont be hanging onto animals to sell them at Smithfield."
