MEAT company Cwmni Cig Arfon will start a £1m expansion next month.
A 12,000sq ft processing plant will be built on the towns Cibyn Industrial Estate in Caernarvon, which will create 20 more jobs and increase the companys total workforce to over 100.
The project has been awarded a £413,040 processing and marketing grant from the Welsh Development Agency and National Assembly for Wales. It will increase throughput of the current product range and provide facilities to develop new and innovative value-added products.
Improvements will also be carried out to the lairage and vehicle washing facilities at the companys nearby abattoir.
CCA director Iolo Povey said: "The farming and meat industry has suffered its worst ever crisis, but I hope this development will prove that confidence is returning and there is a more positive future ahead."
The company, which is part farmer-owned, has increased its turnover from £3.5m to £15m in less than 10 years.
It has long-term supply arrangements with major food suppliers such as the Booker Group, supermarket chain Somerfield and many independent butchers. Last year, CCA won two major prizes at the British Meat Awards in London. *
