2300gns bid twice for Limousins at joint Carlisle sale
By Jeremy Hunt
TWO Scottish Limousin herds achieved equal top prices of 2300gns when stock carrying the Linross and Crownhead prefixes were offered at a joint production sale at Carlisle.
Good breeding featured strongly in the leading prices achieved by the Linross herd of Glamis, Forfar breeders Bob and Jane Douglas.
The purchase of the mature Hydesville portion from the Powner family in 1994 had a significant impact at Linross and it was one of those cows, the senior cow Hydesville Barissa, that jointly topped the trade at 2300gns.
Sold for 29,000gns
Buyer J J Templeton, Kilmar-nock secured the 12-year-old Barissa, a show-winning Favori daughter out of the great Druk Larissa which sold for 29,000gns in 1985. Barissa was suckling a bull calf at foot by Lino.
A 2100gns call from S and P Edmondson, Keswick claimed the 1996-bred Linross Margarite, a Sevenoaks Ivan sired heifer in-calf to Lino. Another Ivan heifer in-calf to Gaulois realised 1850gns to McKinney Bros, Co Londonderry.
Bob and Jean Burnells well-known Crownhead herd from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire offered a selection of calved and in-calf heifers by successful sire Crownhead Hydro.
Peter and Anne Lang, Helmsley, North Yorks paid 2300gns for Crownhead Lille, a calved heifer with a Beef Value of +20 and suckling a bull calf by Hydesville Laser.
An identical bid from J and * Phillips, Carmarthen bought the served heifer Crownhead Melody, in-calf to Bailea Mexico – a bull bought in February this year for 7000gns.
An undisclosed bidder gave 2100gns for another heifer and calf outfit and the Langs were in again at 2100gns to claim a served heifer in-calf to Mexico.
