3450gns high at Ulster dispersal

IT was standing room only for buyers at the joint dispersal sale of the Mearnelodge herd and reduction sale of the Foxford herd at Portadown last week.

Northern Ireland Limousin breeders pushed prices to 3450gns for a five-year-old cow and May-born bull calf from Myrtle Rutherfords Foxford herd. The top call came from Will Corrie of Newtownards.

The cow, Kilham Lucy, is by the Wintershall Jupiter son Dyfri Cardi. She was suckling a bull calf by Bellisle Miji – bred out of the 10,000gns cow Broadmeadows Jiji – whose progeny impressed the crowd throughout the sale.

Top price for the dispersal of Tom Neales Mearnelodge herd was 3000gns for the calved heifer Lowabbey Ovita bred by Willie Hunter in south-west Scotland. Ovita, another from the Lowabbey herd that benefited from the influence of the Canadian-bred bull MCM Goldcard, was suckling a heifer calf by Japelou. Buyer was George McCague adding to his new Bridgeview herd at Newry.

Other good prices for Mearnelodge included 2750gns for a Hydesville Brigadier sired heifer with a heifer calf at foot by a son of Uplands Batman.

The Mearnelodge stock bull Greensons Olympian – by Djerk and out of a Titan cow – made 2450gns. Overall average for the two herds – cows £2202 and weaned calves £1111 (Automart). &#42
