By FWi staff
FARMERS who block footpaths and bridleways face fines of up to 5000 under new legislation, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Landowners or tenants can be asked to cut back overhanging vegetation so that riders and vehicles can pass, under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.
Sanctions are also toughened for landowners who persistently block a footpath under the legislation which came into force on Tuesday (30 January).
