Abattoir takeover plans to cut plant numbers

ABATTOIR bosses plan to rationalise the slaughtering industry by cutting cattle and sheep capacity by up to 30%.

A group, chaired by David Maunder, of Lloyd Maunder, is looking to form a venture company to fund buyouts of closing plants.

The group is keen to stop the system of abattoirs which go into receivership being bought up and reopened at low cost.
