Nigel Snook explains the
launch of direct access to
Lantras information services
via Farmers Weekly
Interactive
IT is vital that we communicate effectively with the businesses and individuals we represent on training, education and business development issues. In fact, one of our key objectives for the coming year is to become the authoritative source of information on sector trends and learning opportunities for those involved with agriculture, horticulture and other land-based industries. However, to be effective it is important that we provide the sector with the information that it needs.
Since our formation in April 1998, we have run a helpline (0345-078007) to answer your questions on education, training and business development. The success of the helpline, which deals with 150 enquiries per week, has led us to look at ways of widening access to the information we hold.
This has led to two recent initiatives. The first was to launch our website (www.lantra.co.uk) at the Smithfield Show last December. The website includes a variety of information, for example details of the careers available in the land-based sector or information on National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications.
The second initiative, which we are launching today, is to provide a direct link between our helpline and Farmers Weekly Interactive (www.fwi.co.uk). This will allow farmers and other users, wherever they are based, to have their questions on training and education answered at the press of a button. The link has been designed to allow users to enter their questions directly onto the screen and to have a response posted both to their email address and directly onto Farmers Weekly Interactive within 24 hours.
The link provides a direct line to the specialist staff of our information services team. They can answer questions on topics such as:
• What health and safety training do I need?
• Where is my nearest Lantra registered training provider?
• What further and higher education courses are available to me locally?
• How do I get onto a Modern Apprenticeship or National traineeship?
It is our aim to ensure that this service will become a vital part of Farmers Weekly Interactive and provide users with accurate and up to date information in response to their questions. So I invite you to take the opportunity to put your questions to us by visiting www.fwi.co.uk and using the Lantra information services link.
