Americans lose faith in gene crops

WHILE most Americans would still buy GM food, confidence is falling, reports The Guardian.

A new poll shows that 63% of shoppers would be very or quite likely to buy a product genetically engineered to resist insect damage. This is down 14% on last year.

And 54% say they are very or quite likely to buy food modified to taste better or stay fresh longer. This is down 4% on last year.

Four in 10 consumers had not heard of GM food, the supermarket industrys annual convention was told.
