Approval for cleaning protocol

A CLEANING protocol used in the poultry industry, which has found favour with supermarkets, is to be adapted for use by pig producers.

Known as Biosystem 3000, the protocol has been developed by Norfolk company AFS Animal Care. Commercial director Keith Wishart explains that some units have good cleaning regimes, whereas others are appalling. "We look at a producers needs, then set up a programme that ensures appropriate disinfectants are used for different parts of the process.

"The protocol ensures cleaning and disinfection is done on a regular basis and provides a checklist so the process is formally recorded."

Similar protocols used in the poultry industry have been well received by supermarket customers, helping to provide reassurance about animal health and food safety issues, says Mr Wishart. &#42
