Arable rents rise

EARLY signs from this autumns rent reviews show increases of between 20% and 30% in the arable sector, according to Strutt and Parkers Leo Hickish.

This means levels of £70 and £60/acre are now typically being paid for grade 2 and grade 3 arable land, respectively, under the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986.

The rate of increase is, however, about £2 or £3/acre less than that seen 12 months ago. Moderate increases could be seen again next autumn, with the three-yearly review period involving an element of "catching up".n
