This half-bred cow and her three-quarter bred Limousin calf are some of the first animals to take part in a new 10-year project -Leading Industry to Meat Objectives (LIMO) – to be run by the British Limousin Cattle Society, and Northern Irelands Greenmount Agricultural College. LIMO intends to identify the best type of suckler cow, and is a comparative study of Limousin cross Friesian half-breds, three-quarter and pure breds. The 48 cattle in the trial will be managed to optimise production, with EBV traits, fertility, and milking ability recorded. Progeny will have their growth, feed converison rates, and carcass conformation recorded.
