Northern Conquest soya was harvested at Osier Dell, Hayling Island, Hants last Friday – seven days earlier than last year. However, yield at 2.1t/ha (17cwt/acre) was well down, reports Simon Walter. Spring ploughing, the sixth wettest summer on record, 20% less summer sunshine and cold nights all hit the crop, notes Robin Appels Edward Willmott. "It really was the most testing season. But it shows soya can yield even in a season when all spring crops have suffered."
