&#8226 SELLING cattle live over the internet came a step closer last week with the announcement that researchers are to get part of a £2m package announced by science minister Lord Sainsbury to investigate the feasibility of holding auctions on-line.

&#8226 AUCTIONEERS Barbers recorded their highest entry of new season lambs through Market Draytons auction recently. Over 1000 head went under the hammer to return an average of 84p/kg with a top price of 99p/kg for a pen of 39.5kg Texels from Mitchells of Sambrook.

&#8226 LATEST British Wool Board figures suggest just over 2.4m kilos of the 2000/2001 wool clip was offered at its most recent sale and about 85% was cleared. Spot prices varied from 87p/kg for the best supplies to 56p/kg for the poorer sorts.
