AROUND THE SALES

QUOTA leasing prices began the new milk year on Tuesday (Apr 1) at between 9p and 10p/litre. But lessors are still hopeful of 10.5p/litre, according to Mark Jones of ADAS. As more cows are moved under the cull – and milk prices fall – 9p/litre will become the more realistic expectation, he suggests.

TOP price at a sale at Red House Farm, High Melton, South Yorks, was £58,500 for a 1994 New Holland TX34 combine with a 15ft header, report auctioneers DDM Agriculture.

HALF the cattle sold for 1000gns or more when the milking portion and summer-calving heifers from the Pevland herd of Holstein Friesians were sold last week. The offering – for D J Winter and Sons at Berkeley, Glos – saw a top price of 3000gns, according to auctioneers Gwilym Richards.
