Avon is an SSSI

ENGLISH Nature has announced that the river Avon, from its headwaters in Wilts to its mouth in Hants, is now a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The decision follows an eight month consultation with 600 landowners and tenants farming alongside the 130 miles of river.

and its main tributaries.

According to English Nature, the governments nature conservation adviser, the designation will help protect wildlife and habitats along one of the best remaining lowland chalk river systems in England.
