Avondale sells to 8000gns

TRADE topped at 8000gns at the second and final sale to disperse the Avondale herd of Holstein Friesians at Broadway, Worcs.

Alan and Rosemary Shufflebotham received this for Shoremar Adona, an in-calf heifer by Donnandale Skychief.

Adona, by Donnandale Skychief, is out of the successful show cow Aitkenbrae Starbuck Ada and was offered in-calf to Maughlin Storm. Buyer was A J Baird, Cheltenham.

The next lot achieved the days second highest price paid by Mr and Mrs J Barker, Leicester, when they secured Avondale Mark Monogram bred from one of the herds most successful families. Price was 7000gns.

A 5200gns call came from C Iveson, Leyburn, North Yorks, to add Haselmere Prelude Roxy to his Myersgarth herd. This 1992-bred import is out of a Southwind Bell dam and was in-calf to Storm.

AVERAGES: nine cows and calved heifers £2315; 32 served heifers £2043 and 41 recently served and maiden heifers £1810. (Norton and Brooksbank)n
