HITTING the high spots at the 10th Anniversary Black-and-White sale at Carlisle market last weekend was the Logan familys Manorpowis herd, which made the top price of 16,000gns.
Based at Blairlogie, Stirlingshire, A Logan and Sons saw their year-old heifer Manorpowis Mandel Karen live-up to her stunning pedigree.
Out of the 15,868kg B-M-Y Leadman Karen, the highest classified Leadman daughter in the world at Ex92, this heifer had a Ped Index of 951, PIN +£86 and ITEM +£92. Buyers were B S and V J Fry for their Littlebredy herd in Dorset.
Meanwhile F D Faulkner and Son, Alton, Hants, consigned Fielders Destinys Darla, a July-born heifer which is only the second member of this family to be offered in the UK.
By Bellwood, and out of the Blackstar sired Snow N Dellias Destiny, she heads for Swindon, Wilts, with Horton and Harding at 10,000gns.
Averages: Eight cows and heifer in-milk £2966; 32 open heifers £3245 and 34 1997-born heifer calves £2733. (Harrison and Hetherington)n
