Barley fungicides

INITIAL results from a series of trials assessing the response of winter barley to strobilurin fungicides showed no economic response to late season treatment.

A mixture of kresoxim methyl and epoxiconazole performed extremely well, especially at three-quarters rate, says ADASs David McKnight. Despite early season drought yield was about 0.5t/ha (0.2t/acre) higher than controls.

With barley at £65-70/t, the £36/ha treatment cost was not justified, notes Mr McKnight. Further trials will show whether higher yielding sites justify treatment, he adds.
