Beef bulls fizz at Portadown

BEEF bulls graced the ring at Automart, Portadown, for the first time this year where a capacity crowd produced a flying trade paying a top of 2900gns for a Belgian Blue from the Annaghone herd.

Paraded by breeder Norman Hammond of Co Tyrone, the all-white bull was by Savant de Pierrcome and out of a cow bred in the Ridge Dean herd of Leighton Buzzard breeder Michele Wilde. Buyer was W J Henderson, Bangor, Co Down.

A well-muscled son of Balthayock Nougat – who is by top producer Dingle Hofmeister – led the Charolais trade at 2250gns. He was offered by Montalto Farms, Ballynahinch, and bought by Patrick Brown, Co Antrim. Montalto Farms sold another by Nougat at 1700gns.

Collecting the supreme champion ticket was a Simmental bull from breeder Billy Robsons Kilbride Farm herd at Ballyclare. Kilbride Farm Lambeg not only impressed the crowd with his size and shape but backed up visual superiority with performance. He has a beef value of 33.

He joins Michael Trainors herd at Downpatrick and is by Milnafua Graduate and out of a Gretna House Supersonic dam. He realised 1860gns.

Best price for Limousin cattle was a 2000gns call from James Taylor, Portrush for Cronshill Radiance, a son of the Broadmeadows Cannon sired Sarkley Nightingale, consigned by Cecil Adams, Holywood.

Mushroom Friar Fergus has produced some outstanding Aberdeen Angus progeny over the years and another eyecatcher – Crew Dynamo Dan – sold at 1500gns to J McBride, Co Antrim. Consigned by Miss Samantha Allen from Strabane, he was out of her successful show cow Cashelane Daffodil. (Automart) &#42
