Beef farmer finds money in badgers
BADGER-WATCHING has proved more profitable than rearing beef for a farming couple, reports The Guardian.
Kevin and Anne Atkinson are selling the 24 cattle on their 60-acre farm at Tiverton, Devon, and devoting their energies to a badger-watching business they set up three years ago.
Mr Atkinson said they wanted to stay on the farm but in the current economic climate beef was unable to provide an income.
The couple spent 12,000 setting up the venture, which includes a purpose-built hide where visitors can watch around 10 animals.
They hope to diversify further by opening up their farm to school parties.
