Better milk prices from new owners
DAIRY farmers in south Wales could receive better milk prices, claim the buyers of the Dansco processing plant in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire.
International manufacturer Hebatco, has bought the plant off McCain Foods for an undisclosed sum, with effect from July 11.
It intends to increase production and expand its range of dairy products, as well as source more milk direct from farmers, says spokesman David Neill.
The plant produces about 15,000t of mozzarella cheese each year, requiring 130m litres of raw milk, although this is set to rise "significantly", says Mr Neill. By receiving a premium price, Hebatco will be able to offer better returns to its milk suppliers. *
